The garden is located within the Booker T. Washington National Monument and has 44 raised beds with 1,432 sq. ft. of growing space.

In the past, the Giving Garden has served as an educational and community service site for Good Neighbors campers and Master Gardeners.

“Tackling Hunger” is a collaborative project of the Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake in partnership with the Booker T. Washington National Monument, the Franklin County Master Gardeners, Hot Shots Entertainment Center and Lake Christian Ministries.  Also, involved are many dedicated community volunteers who provide over 1200 hours of volunteer service every year.

In 2022, Lake Christian Ministries fulfilled 5332 food requests for food insecure people. Over 1500 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables were provided by the Giving Garden.

This harvest will bring some tasty treats to the tables of our neighbors.
