“Service before Self” During the Coronavirus Closures

Club Update:

  • Roadside Cleanup on March 26th was a huge success. Thirty-two bags of trash was picked up along 122 between Harmony School Road and Wendy’s.  A phone call was received from someone in the community thanking us for the work we had done!

  • Dock Sign installs with a limited crew are still happening and the homeowners we saw at a distance were thankful for the sign. Twenty-five dock signs have been installed.

  • Rotary Garden work is still happening with a limited crew. Roger Henderson and his team completed a stand to elevate the water cistern at the garden.

  • Our SML Foundation has issued about $10,000 in grant money this Rotary Year. $3,000 of that money was related to the Covid-19 response.  The Rotary grants include:
    • Rise Against Hunger with the Lynchburg Morning club.
    • Healing Waters
    • 4-H donation
    • Disc Golf at Moneta Park with District Grant
    • Staunton River High School 5K
    • Scruggs Fire & Rescue (COVID-19)
    • Franklin Resource Center
    • STEP
    • Agape (COVID-19)
    • Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue

If you know of an organization that is helping people get through this crisis and is in need of assistance please ask them to reach out to us.

  • We are still looking to reschedule the Moneta Madness Disc Golf Tournament.

  • NATR Committee is still holding the event date while examining the impact of COVID-19.

  • We plan to reschedule the Excellence in Education Banquet.  We appreciate the opportunity to recognize the good work done by teachers in our schools.  Rescheduling this event is a top priority.
  • We are working on submitting a District Grant in support of helping feed the hungry with LCM!  The project will consist of constructing an outdoor kiosk for displaying fresh fruits and vegetables.

We are missing our regular meetings at Moosie’s, but will continue working for our community.  Our club will conduct our meetings via Zoom conferencing.  But we are concerned about Moosie’s closing the restaurant due to COVID-19.  We suggest helping them out by purchasing a gift card to be used in the future.
