Rotary-Tanzania2WaterMr. Walter Hughes spoke to the Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake describing the safe drinking water projects he headed in Guiana.  On missionary trip to the South African country he noticed the fundamental need for good quality water resources.  He returned to Rocky Mount where he is a member of the local Rotary club and began the project to drill a single well.  Over the next several months his project grew in scope to drill 60 wells.  This was made possible through the partnering arrangements with other Rotary clubs as distant as California.

The Smith Mountain Lake club, led by member Pidge Morgan, has funded the purchase of teaching materials and goods in Tanzania and South Africa.  The club is currently embarking on a project to provide clean water resources, restroom facilities and environmental improvements in Tanzania.
