Community service projects require both volunteers and funding. SML Rotarians volunteer their time. Members’ dues and these four fundraisers produce the money.

fundraisingNite at the Races, on the 3rd Saturday every October, is SML Rotary’s most productive fundraiser. Started in 2008, the 5th annual event in 2012 netted $12,000 for community service. The 4.5-hour event begins at 5:30PM at the W. E. Skelton 4-H Conference Center. It’s an exciting and fun-filled evening of video horse racing, dinner, refreshments, a 50/50, door prizes, race winner prizes, and a ladies’ hat parade. (More about Nite at the Races…)

As both a fundraiser and service to the community, SML Rotary sells 100 freshly cut, hand-selected Christmas Trees each year. Most buyers consider the Fraser Firs the most desirable choice, with excellent needle retention and a wonderful scent. Rotarians pick up the trees late-November. Sales continue until we sell out. 911 Emergency Dock Signs help first responders find your home from the water in case of fire or medical emergency. Rotarians volunteer their time to install the sign on your dock, and the Club makes a few bucks. (More about Dock Signs…)

Kroger donates 5% of your grocery purchases to the SML Rotary Foundation when you link your Kroger Plus Card to the Smith Mountain Lake Rotary Foundation. Amazon’s Smile program is similar. Both programs are painless and cost you nothing. (More about Kroger and Amazon Programs…)
