About Us
The Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake
The Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake meets twice each month in Moneta, Virginia. 32 members are actively involved in charitable projects that benefit the local community, and in other charitable projects that are regional and international in scope.
Our largest local project partners with Lake Christian Ministries to help alleviate hunger and improve nutrition in the communities that surround Smith Mountain Lake.
Our top international project is the 25-year fight to eradicate polio worldwide.
The Rotary motto “Service Above Self” conveys the humanitarian spirit of the organization’s more than 1.2 million members. Rotary Club members are business and professional leaders who make a difference both locally and internationally through their service to their community and the world.
During the past Rotary year (July 1, 2010-June 30, 2011) through member contributions and SML Rotary’s two major fundraisers, Night at the Races and Christmas Tree Sales, our club has provided financial support and service in the following areas:

Polio now exists in only four (4) countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan. Since the inception of the PolioPlus program by Rotary in 1985, more than two billion children have received oral polio vaccine. To date, 210 countries around the world are polio-free.
- We contributed over $5,500 (over $150 per member) for other worldwide projects through the Rotary International Annual Programs. The major focus is the advancement of international goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons. These programs center on humanitarian service and the largest of these programs are for Education, Poverty, Water Quality, Sanitation, Health and Hunger.
